Impaired Ability to Handle Toxins

Toxins are as a result of biological processes and are about 80,000 in the environment. It is crucial to get rid of these toxins because they can trigger autoimmune disorders. The body’s ability to handle toxins enables one to get into Hashimoto’s remission. Soft detoxification of the two pathways of the liver is a great way to begin with so as to prepare the body for healing.

The main toxins are phthalates, triclosan, parabens, PBA and fluoride. In as much as fluoride used to be part of the therapeutic regimen for patients with thyroid disorders, it is now recommended that people should go for products that are fluoride free since it can be found in toothpaste and bottled water.

Phthalates, PBA and parabens (also known as endocrine disruptors) trigger Hashimoto’s while triclosan is connected to autoimmune thyroid disease. These chemicals or disruptors interfere with hormonal balance which mimic estrogen, damage the thyroid or suppress its activities. When estrogen becomes dominant, it may lead to autoimmunity or thyroid conditions resulting in birth defects, developmental disabilities and malignant tumors.

Toxic build up in the body is linked to various factors. Studies have shown that there’s a connection between lithium and thyroid dysfunction yet lithium is found in the water supply and is used as an antidepressant as well.

Gut permeability

A leaky gut can lead to a number of problems including:

  • Nutrient/digestive enzyme deficiencies
  • Food sensitivities
  • Infections in the sinuses
  • One may be in a catabolic state i.e. body breaking itself down rather than building up
  • Imbalance of gut flora
  • Stress
  • Infections both in the mouth and gut

It is therefore recommended that people who have a leaky gut should take appropriate measures to start the healing process. For instance, one can begin by sticking to diets like Body Ecology Diet and getting rid of trigger foods.
